You Can’t Stop Fitriya Mohamed

Fitriya Mohamed is a standout basketball player. Yet growing up, she often felt disconnected from the teams she played on. As a Hijab-wearing athlete, she faced prejudice both on and off the court. And yet, she worked past it, being named Female Athlete of the Year at her high school, and going on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. Now, she’s dedicating herself to create a more inclusive space for Muslim women in sport. Fitriya founded the MWSBL, or Muslim Women’s Summer Basketball League, to inspire future generations of Muslim female hoopers, worldwide.

Through the league, she’s fighting for Muslim women and equality by fostering sisterhood, providing a space where Muslim women feel like they belong, and helping them find their strength. As a basketball ambassador for Hijabi Ballers, she’s also helping bring visibility to athletes who wear the Hijab, and ensuring that Muslim women are recognized as strong, inspirational athletes.

Learn how Nike and Hijabi Ballers are teaming up to increase Muslim representation in sport.
