Demiesha Dennis: To Nature is to Nurture

A childlike wonder for the outdoors is second nature for Demiesha Dennis. Through her initiative, Brown Girl Outdoor World, she strives to normalize nature by removing common barriers to outdoor exploration amongst Black, Indigenous and Anti-racist Racialized women. BGOW provides a space for these women to feel safe, seen and supported. Strength and safety in numbers at every turn through the community.

“The diversity of people represented within nature should reflect the diversity of the land.”

“Weʼre taking a privileged idea and contextualizing it with a new backdrop.”

“Women donʼt belong in the kitchen. At BGOW, we donʼt believe in walls or subscribe to the idea of a woman being limited to belonging in any singular.”
